Co-President Comandante Daniel
at the Central Event Commemorating the 47th Anniversary
of the Founding of the Nicaraguan Army
September 2nd 2026

Good afternoon, Nicaraguan brothers and sisters. Today, September 2nd we are commemorating the 47th Anniversary of the Nicaraguan Army. For 47 years, we have succeeded, the Army of the People, we have managed to defeat aggression, the aggression which time and again has been launched against our Patriotic Nation, wanting to end the Independence, Self-Determination, Freedom and Democracy of Nicaragua’s People.

How many battles, how many struggles, how much sacrifice, how much pain, for the families of the Brothers and Sisters who have given their Lives, confronting mercenaries, confronting invaders, who have not prevailed, who have not been able to, and will not be able to, put an end to our Sovereignty, to Peace, which is a Blessing from God for the Nicaraguan People.

And in this month of September, which is a month of historic dates and Heroic Battles, this is the month in which the Independence of Central America was signed on September 15th in the year 1821.

We declared Independence, the Nicaraguan Brothers and Sisters who fought with the Central American Brothers and Sisters declared Independence so that finally Central America would be free from the domination of the Spanish yoke. But then, others set out to dominate our countries, they tried to impose imperialist domination, when they dictated that America was for the United States; that is, speaking of all the countries of all the Latin American region, not just Central America.

And that Battle is still being fought, that Battle is still being fought, and here in Nicaragua we are continue fighting it. Thanks to the Unity we have had, to the cohesion, to the steadfastness, to the Dignity of the Nicaraguan People, of the Nicaraguan Army, of the Nicaraguan Police, of the Institutions, we have managed to navigate in the middle of the storm.

Because when we had finally managed to achieve a State of Peace in Nicaragua, the storm came, and then, how many more years it took to recover Peace again, Peace that is fundamental to be able to develop and strengthen all the Institutions of any State.

A State needs Peace, so that Housing can be built, so that Hospitals can be built, so that Scholarship Programs can be developed, completely free, for Higher Education, as we are doing now.

And as we said some time ago, we have to always be with one eye open and one eye closed. Why? Because the enemy we have, which our Peoples have, is an enemy who, simply because it is a World military power, feels it has the right to attack Peoples wherever they are in the World, provoking World crises, and we see it in the resistance of the US rulers to making Peace with the heroic People of Iran, and as long as there is no Peace, there will be war there, because the heroic People of Iran is a People that neither surrenders, nor sells out.

And this impacts on the World Economy, impacts on the Economy of all our Nations, impacts on the Economy of the United States itself, causing discomfort among the US People, because they feel that these wars are ultimately paid for by the US people, and the prices of products there in the United States become more expensive.

These wars also call for the sacrifice of United States youth. There they are sent forcibly, they have to join the Armed Forces and the Armed Forces missions in actions attacking other countries, other nations, other Peoples, inflicting grief.

In other words, the United States, with all the wealth it has, has used it only to sow death and grief. Wealth which could well have been used to help all these Peoples to fight Poverty, to end hunger, to end the desperate situation of thousands and thousands of Brothers and Sisters from all over this region, who in desperation when they cannot find how to survive in their Countries, they have no alternative but to seek the so-called American Dream, and they look for a way to do so by making great sacrifices so as to travel to the United States.

We have Nicaraguan brothers and sisters there as immigrants, many of them are arrested and detained; because after they have been exploited there in the United States, now the government is dictating measures against immigrants to detain them and deport them back to their countries.

That's how hundreds of Nicaraguans, thousands of Nicaraguans, have been returning from the United States to Nicaragua, and of course we welcome them as Brothers and Sisters and look for ways for them to join in economic, social, and productive activities, because in Nicaragua we have achieved that, as General Avilés has well pointed out.

Of course, in order for productive activities to develop in the way they have been developing, marking growth in the Nicaraguan economy, that is only possible with Peace, and Peace is guaranteed with an Army that has a Vocation of Service, a Vocation of Peace, one which is the heir of General Sandino.

Likewise, in this month of September we have the glorious dates of William Walker's defeat. Walker was coming to fulfill the American dream, he was coming to take over Nicaragua first and then all of Central America. And that is what, naturally, inspired the Courage and Dignity of Nicaraguan Brothers who, led by General José Dolores Estrada, and with Andrés throwing the stone, confronting Walker, taking down the invading Yankee.

It was also meant that the Central American Peoples joined in, especially from neighboring Peoples, Honduran Brothers, Costa Rican Brothers, Salvadoran Brothers came; they came to join the fight against Walker, because they also understood that Walker was not going to stop in Nicaragua, but was going after all of Central America.

These are dates we do not forget and which we commemorate here in Nicaragua, and what better and greater commemoration than this Event on the 47th Anniversary of the Nicaraguan Army, where, as General Julio César Avilés has explained, everything that the Army has done, the tasks that the Army has been carrying out, not only its fundamental task taking care of the country’s Sovereignty, but also accompanying the activity of Nicaragua’s producers, of Nicaragua’s peasants.

We have seen them there in assemblies and meetings, in different municipalities across Nicaragua where agricultural activities, livestock activities are being developed. And the Army is there accompanying the producers, and the producers are content, because they know they have the protection to be able to carry out their work with no danger, with no risk, because they are accompanied there by the Army, and of course, the Police also do their job.

And today, September 2nd, we are one day after the most recent thing General Aviles mentioned, one day later, and he has fully expressed his support for the decision of the National Assembly to Reform to the Constitution.

Because this Constitution had not been thoroughly reformed and contained a series of Articles, of conditions that to some degree facilitated aggression against our People, the shackling of the Nicaraguan people. And that task has been a battle waged by the People of Nicaragua, who have accompanied the Leadership of the National Assembly led by our Brother, Dr. Gustavo Porras.

Well, an intense job, with very impressive participation, in all the Consultations that the Assembly made. Because, notice how important, this is a Reform that was done in consultation with the People, and the People supported it, and precisely yesterday, the first of September, in Honor of the Heroes of September, in Honor of Rubén Darío, in Honor of Rigoberto López Pérez, the Reform was approved.

For a Reform to become Law in the Republic, it has to pass two moments: One, first the approval of the Law, and then the Law continues under scrutiny in the Assembly and also by the People, it continues to be submitted for their knowledge and support, so that people really know what this Reform means.

And on January 18th will be the Second Session where the Assembly will then be approving the Reform of the Constitution definitively. A reform which of course prioritizes in first place Nicaragua’s Sovereignty, which we must take care of the most, and in this, naturally, the Nicaraguan Army plays a decisive role.

And you, beloved Brothers and Sisters, both the Brothers and Sisters who are present here, and those who are engaged in different tasks elsewhere across our country, in the border areas, while others will be sailing the sea on surveillance duties, everyone, Brothers and Sisters of the Nicaraguan Army, all of you, accompanied by your families and accompanied by the People, you are a Force which naturally gives Security and Confidence to the People. Because they know this is an Army which is with the People, to defend the People, to serve the People, which is to serve Nicaragua.

Our congratulations on this Anniversary, the 47th Anniversary, to all the Compañeros and Compañeras who have been promoted, and to all the Compañeros and Compañeras who have held steadfast in the Army. And of course also recognizing that we have Heroes and Martyrs, Compañeros and Compañeras who have given their Lives throughout these 47 years and, therefore, they are present here with us.

It is true that they are on another Plane of Life, but they are accompanying us here, they accompany this Army, and this raises the morale of the Soldiers, the Officers, and the People. That is why we have said countless times that we can never forget those Heroes, who gave their lives in defense of Sovereignty.

For our part, we are of course going to continue strengthening the Nicaraguan Army, through its Commander-in-Chief, General Julio César Avilés, since we are also convinced that at least the minimum conditions of survival for soldiers must always be guaranteed.

Especially taking into account that we are in a period, it certainly seems that way, a period of natural disasters, floods, earthquakes. Nicaragua has already experienced several earthquakes, and we must always be prepared, and the Army too is always ready. For what? To protect, to protect the population in high-risk conditions, when these natural phenomena occur.

You, beloved Brothers and Sisters, have been able to give your life for the Nicaraguan People, and we are sure that this disposition, which is really a strength that comes from Christ, that comes from God, is what allows us to say to those seeking to threaten us, who constantly threaten us: Here is a People and an Army that Neither Sells Out, Nor Surrenders, Ever!

Long live the Nicaraguan Army on its 47th Anniversary!

Sandino Lives On, the Struggle Continues!

A Free Nation or Death!
